Пол Самуэльсон
Американский экономист, лауреат Нобелевской премии по экономике 1970 г. Работы Самуэльсона охватывают практически весь спектр экономических проблем. Он внес значительный вклад в динамическую экономическую теорию (см. Dynamic analysis) своими исследованиями поведения экономики вне состояния равновесия и ее цикличности. Ему удалось определить условия, при которых экономическая система является устойчивой. Ученый также разработал концепцию экономической эффективности, в частности, в своей теореме о магистрали (turnpike theorem) он описал условия максимального экономического роста. У ученого был свой подход к теории потребительского спроса: он определял предпочтения потребителей на основе выявленных предпочтений (см. Revealed preferences). В области международной экономики он разработал (вместе со Столпером) теорему, которая названа их именами (Stolper-Samuelson theorem). В теореме утверждается, что свободная торговля приводит к снижению дохода страны от использования редкого фактора производства. Теорию пропорциональности факторов Хекшера-Олина (см. Heckscher-Ohlin factor proportions theory) он дополнил условиями, необходимыми для выравнивания цен на ресурсы. Самуэльсону принадлежит первенство в определении зависимости между акселератором и мультипликатором.
